Piers Morgan, 56, and Andy Murray, 34, exchanged words after the latter came to Emma Raducanu’s defence. The Wimbledon champion hit out at the former Good Morning Britain presenter on Twitter today.

It comes after Raducanu, 18, was forced to withdraw from her Wimbledon fourth-round match due to medical reasons on Monday evening.

Piers has since criticised the young tennis star as he explained that sporting professionals should be able to handle “pressure”.

Taking to the micro-blogging site, the journalist hit back at Murray as he urged the tennis player to just admit that he is right.

It comes after Piers shared a quote about dealing with pressure in sport.

In view of his 7.9 million followers, he wrote: “My favourite quote about pressure in sport: ‘There is no pressure in Test cricket. Real pressure is when you are flying a Mosquito with a Messerschmitt up your arse.’ – Keith Miller. cc @andy_murray.”

Murray took the opportunity to respond to Piers’ post as he explained that pressure comes in different forms.

In view of his 3.5 million followers, he penned: “No question flying a fighter plane in a war would be unbelievably stressful.

“Pressure comes in many different forms. You praised Jorginho for how he handled ‘incredible pressure’ yesterday. What’s your point?”
