Priyanka Chopra Says Public Criticism Of Meghan Markle ‘Has To Do With Racism’

Just a few days after slamming an untrue story about visiting the Duchess of Sussex and baby Archie at Frogmore Cottage, Priyanka Chopra is back to defending her friend.

The 36-year-old addressed the negativity plaguing Meghan Markle since becoming a royal in a new interview with The Sunday Times — and said it’s mostly due to her being biracial.

“I’ve seen that and it’s really unfortunate. But if there’s anyone who can handle it, it’s her. Of course it has to do with racism, it’s an obvious reason.”

The actress went on:

“The beauty of Meg is that she’s been herself through all of this. A lot of people got to know her after everything, but I knew her before and she’s the same chick.”

This totally echos what George Clooney said about Markle a few months back. The actor told Australia’s Who magazine:

“They’re just chasing Meghan Markle everywhere, she’s been pursued and vilified. She’s a woman who is seven months pregnant and she has been pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was and it’s history repeating itself.”

Remember when Prince Harry had to release a statement in 2016 about the continued harassment?? Sadly, it never stopped. He shared at the time through a royal spokesperson:

“Some of this has been very public – the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments. Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her.”

All that said, Nick Jonas‘ wife capped her thoughts off with this:

“Now she’s got a real platform, she talks about the same things she always did. We spent hours speaking about the difference that influence and dialogue can make to the world before this whole thing happened, so what you see now is authentically her. She’s always been the girl wanting to move the needle.”

Guess this means the gals are still pals??

Though Meghan and Priyanka were friends before the Suits alum started dating Harry, rumors of a fiery feud began when Markle did not attend Chopra’s wedding in India. Additionally, the Quantico star did not attend Markle’s baby shower at the Mark Hotel in NYC.

But this new interview tells a different story. Perhaps it’s all tabloid fodder, after all.

Either way, we think we can all agree that Meghan does not deserve the constant barrage of hate she receives from all press and public.
