Simon Gregson: Coronation Street star addresses first teenage kiss on-set ‘She was 24’

The Big Soap Quiz: Simon Gregson discusses his first Corrie kiss

Simon Gregson has been a firm fixture on Coronation Street since he made his ITV debut over three decades ago. The Steve McDonald actor has since opened about the moment he had to lock lips with an actress on the Weatherfield set who was nine years older than him at the time.

The 46-year-old was joined by his co-stars Jack P Shepherd and Sair Khan on The Big Soap Quiz.

The trio went head-to-head with the cast of Emmerdale on the ITV quiz show.

Simon left host Stephen Mulhern stunned after he brought up the age difference between himself and his Corrie co-star.

Stephen told viewers: “This is Simon’s first ever Corrie kiss back in 1990.”

The clip showed the young actor leaning forward to share a smooch with his on-screen co-star.

Looking slightly mortified in the studio, Simon gasped: “Eh… That was raunchy. I was 16 then and she was 24.”

“What?!” a shocked Stephen remarked.

Simon added: “I was a bit frightened,” as the studio audience broke into laughter.

The Steve McDonald actor was later left wishing he’d exited the studio after he was forced to watch a montage of all his love affairs on the soap.

Going through 19 different clips of Steve’s dalliances over the years, Simon exclaimed: “He’s done better than I have!”

Elsewhere, the Big Soap Quiz host later brought up the Weatherfield actor’s age difference with his co-star Jack as Simon cheekily threatened to quit the soap quiz.

Stephen asked: “Your knowledge of Corrie must be incredible! How many years have you been in it?”

When Simon confirmed he’d been on the soap for 33 years, Jack replied: “I’m 33.”

Taking a cheeky swipe at the legendary soap star, Stephen asked: “So when you were born, you came into Weatherfield. How does that make you feel?”

Simon appeared unimpressed with the jibe, as he chimed: “Like, I want to go now.”

Meanwhile, his co-star Jack revealed he has stolen a “Newton and Ridley” bottle opener from the Corrie set.

The David Platt actor said the unusual item apparently has Bill Roache’s (the actor who plays Ken Barlow) voice “sing” every time it is used to uncork a bottle of wine.

Jack confessed: “I nicked a Newton And Ridley bottle opener that sings.”

He added: “It is Bill Roache’s voice every time you uncork it, and it goes ‘Raise a glass to Coronation Street.’”

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV at 7.30pm.
