Sir Elton John pays emotional tribute to blind superfan Louie

The 76-year-old Rocket Man was tearful as he halted his sold-out show at Leeds Arena.

He paid tribute to the boy who appeared to ecstatically sing every word during the star’s thrilling two-and-a-half hour performance.

Sir Elton’s much-delayed Fare-well Yellow Brick Road tour is winding its way around the UK before a headline performance at Glastonbury.

He delved deep into five decades of music for an evening packed with hits – including Your Song, I’m Still Standing and Tiny Dancer.

And in a touching moment he stopped to honour the blind teenager who he introduced as “Louie”.

Having been told about him before the show, Sir Elton paid tribute to the “inspirational youngster”.

His voice cracking with emotion, Sir Elton said: “There’s a little boy in the front row tonight called Louie. He can’t see me but he can hear me. He just broke my heart the whole night.”

The giant screen behind the stage then flashed up the face of the beaming lad as 12,000 fans erupted in cheers and applause.

The star added: “You are so special and you made me feel so great tonight.

“I tell you what – we are going to get your telephone number and I’ll keep in touch with you.”

The icon’s global farewell tour has featured more than 300 concerts in a gruelling schedule which began in Pennsylvania in September 2018 and will end in Stockholm on July 8.

The star revealed he first played in Leeds at the university in the early 1970s, but this was his first performance since he officially opened the West Yorkshire city’s arena 10 years ago.

He told fans: “Thank you for so many years of love and loyalty. This is my last tour.

“You’ve shown me more kindness on this tour than I can ever remember.

“I want to send all the love to this great city and great county.”
