Steve Irwin’s daughter Bindi engaged to childhood sweetheart Chandler Powell
The daughter of late zookeeper Steve Irwin is engaged to her childhood sweetheart Chandler Powell.
Bindi Irwin took to Twitter to announce the happy news in an emotional post.
The former Dancing With The Stars contestant revealed Chandler popped the question on her 21st birthday.
Sharing snaps of the pair cuddling up as she flashed her sparkling ring, Bindi couldn’t hide her delight.
She captioned the sweet pics: “On my birthday I said ‘yes’ & ‘forever’ to the love of my life.
“Chandler, close to six years ago I fell in love with you and every day since has been a whirlwind of adventure and true happiness.”
She added: “Here’s to a lifetime of friendship, purpose and unconditional love.”
The happy couple were inundated with congratulatory messages from her 607,000 followers.
One user wrote: “Your father would be proud of you.”
A second chimed: “What lovely news! Obviously, we hope for a nationally televised ceremony with a healthy dose of khaki!”
And a final fan added: “This is Australia’s real Royal Family now.”
The engagement comes 13 years after Bindi’s Crocodile Hunter father Steve Irwin lost his life aged just 44.
Steve had been just over a week into filming a series called Ocean’s Deadliest on the Great Barrier Reef in September 2006 with his crew.
When they came across a 2.4-meter-wide stingray they entered chest-deep water to film it.
However, he was quickly pierced by the creature several times in the chest, causing a massive injury to his heart.
Despite the attempts of crew to revive him, the TV favourite was pronounced dead by medics who arrived on scene within the hour.
