Susan Boyle says ‘I am who I am’ as she opens up on fame, her fortune and her crush on Piers Morgan

Susan Boyle wowed the Britain’s Got Talent judges with her rendition of ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ in 2009 and has now revealed to OK! she was harbouring a crush on Piers Morgan.

She told OK! that “meeting Piers Morgan for the first time” is her standout memory of the show adding, “I fancied him rotten! I wanted to give him a big smack of a kiss. I still think he’s alright!”

The 58 year old singer revealed that they have seen each other since that day. “I spoke to Piers on Good Morning Britain last summer. I call him “Piersy baby” and he finds it really funny.”

Getting to meet her dream man wasn’t the only way BGT changed Susan’s life with the star now onto her ninth album. After the viral success of the audition Susan had to quickly adapt to her newfound fame. “It was all very new to me and I was so nervous all the time. It was crazy as it felt like half the country was around me.”

“I was being chased up streets and I was running into other people’s houses to get out the road. It was overwhelming. You’d have thought I was Donny Osmond!”

Despite the vast changes in her life, she has remained true to herself. “I’m not manufactured – I am who I am. I’ve had no work done to me.”

She has also chosen to stay in her family home with the only sign of her success is a few fan mail items scattered around the rooms and a wardrobe full of sparkly dresses, which she is very proud to show us.

“Coming back here to the same street and house keeps me grounded. It’s a good neighbourhood – they’d give you the shirt off their back. We all look out for each other and I feel safe here. They are all used to me being here so I don’t get any bother.”

“I like my roots. It keeps me normal, whatever normal is.”

She may be worth an estimated £22 million, but she has chosen to remain in the same house in West Lothian where she was born, and is yet to make any extravagant purchases. “I bought a fur coat, a piano and a bike, which I haven’t been on yet.”

“I’ve spent a bit on driving lessons, but I haven’t managed to pass yet. I’ve got a provisional licence, but they might put a giant cross on it as I nearly ran over my PR in the summer. I’m sensible with money. It’s a bit like going to the desert with water – it’s got to end at some point. I enjoy it, but I don’t overdo it.”
