Susanna Reid’s dash to Streatham terror scene moments after knife rampage

Susanna Reid has revealed she made a frantic dash to the scene of the Streatham terror attack moments after Sudesh Amman's knife rampage.

Amman, 20, was shot dead by armed police on Streatham High Road at 2pm yesterday shortly after he attacked two people.

During her appearance on Good Morning Britain today, Susanna, 49, admitted the horror happened on her "doorstep" and she ran down there as soon as she was aware of an incident taking place.

She said: "So this happened, I have to say, right on my doorstep…

"I saw the police helicopter up in the air and then we realised something was happening went onto social media and of course then discovered this was happening just a couple of minutes away from where I live."

Speaking to her co-host Piers Morgan, Susanna then showed pictures she took at the scene.

She went on: "This is the Odeon cinema, that's where we go to watch films and it happened literally just diagonally opposite the Odeon cinema.

"This is the Lidl supermarket. People were gathered absolutely shocked to see… four heavily armed police officers in the wake of what happened.

"People were shocked, stunned, frightened…there were local residents who couldn't get back into their homes… [they] didn't know if the threat was still going on."

Amman, from Harrow, north London, was shot dead on the street outside a branch of Boots moments after he stabbed a female cyclist outside a pub and man in a Cash Converters store.

He was wearing a fake suicide vest and it later emerged that he was being monitored by authorities following his recent release from prison.

His release came after he served half his three-year sentence on terrorism-related offences.

Amman was jailed for possessing and distributing terrorist documents.

A spokesperson for the Met Police said: "One man, who is in his 40s, was initially considered to be in a life-threatening condition however…

"We are thankful that following his treatment at hospital, this is no longer the case.

"One woman in her 50s had non-life threatening injuries and has been discharged from hospital.

"Another woman in her 20s has minor injuries – believed to have been caused by glass following the discharge of the police firearm.

"She continues to receive treatment at hospital. My thoughts are with the victims and their families."
