Tyler Perry to Receive Humanitarian Award at Oscars 2021
Tyler Perry is going to receive a new award!
According to a report from Deadline on Thursday (January 14), the multi-hyphenate has been selected by Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences Board Of Governors to receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the 2021 Oscars.
Deadline writes that Tyler “is being honored for his extensive work on humanitarian and social Justice causes.” Past recipients of the award include Frank Sinatra, Audrey Hepburn and Angelina Jolie.
The Academy’s press release calls Tyler “a prolific producer, director, actor, writer, entrepreneur and philanthropist, whose commitment to a wide spectrum of charitable and social justice causes has been particularly impactful during the challenges of the past year, addressing economic distress caused by the pandemic, racial reckoning and homelessness in his community.”
