I'm a Traders Joe's employee – we’ve actually been lying to customers but we’re trying to be nice

TRADER Joe’s is known for its organic snacks, affordable wine selection, reasonably priced meals, and of course, their delicious cauliflower gnocchi.

But if you’ve ever shopped at the store, you’ll know that they’re also known for one more thing: the friendly staff that works there.

Trader Joe’s employees always seem happy to see you, whether you’re asking for the whereabouts of an item or simply checking out.

One employee revealed that he doesn’t always mean what he says to customers, but he says those things because he wants to brighten their day or strike up a conversation.

A man named Daniel Bennett, who goes by @DxnielBennett on TikTok, posted a video in which he asks his friend a question:

“You work at Trader Joe’s right?” Daniel began.

“Yeah,” his friend off-camera replied.

“So do you, like, flirt with all of your customers?” Daniel asked.

To which the friend replied: “Yeah, if they’re hot. Usually, whatever they’re getting, I’ll just tell them ‘That’s my favorite.’”

“But, what if it’s not your favorite?” Daniel wondered.

“They don’t know that. Like last week some girl came through my line and she got cauliflower gnocchi. And I told her, ‘That’s my favorite,’ but actually, I’m allergic.”

Viewers joked around with the idea, with many of them saying they’ve had similar experiences at Trader Joe’s:

“One girl told me that spray oil was her favorite. Now I feel dense,” one person commented.

“Can’t tell if they’re being nice or flirting!” added another.
