Man says girlfriend of 5 years is 'childish' over reaction to his fake proposal – but gets ripped to shreds
A MAN was confused over his girlfriend's "over-reaction" to his drunken prank where he woke up his girlfriend to propose with a plastic ring he won on a lad's night – but he was quickly put in his place.
The bloke explained that his girlfriend of five years has been asking for an engagement for a while.
After winning a plastic ring in an arcade game, he decided to use it to play a trick on his girlfriend sleeping at home.
Taking to Reddit, the man said: "In my tipsy state I was like 'aha yknow what would be a great idea? If I pretended to propose to girlfriend with this'. Cue buddies laughing and agreeing."
After getting the approval of his (presumably also tipsy) mates, he headed home to put his plan into action.
He said: "I got home after midnight and woke my girlfriend up (shameful in itself I know) and told her to get out of bed quick in an urgent tone.
"She was worried and asking what's wrong what's wrong. I told her to sit on the edge of the bed.
"I then went down on one knee and presented her with the shitty ring and asked 'will you marry me' and then burst out laughing. I didn't quite get the reception I expected."
Far from cracking up and enjoying a good giggle with her "merry" boyfriend, the woman was furious and threw a pillow at him.
He said: "She went into the bathroom and when I followed her in she was crying. I was still tipsy and couldn't stop laughing (bad I know).
"She was crying and saying 'I can't believe you find this funny', 'you know how much it means to me to get married. You take that special moment away by getting on your knee as a joke.'
A big part of me thinks she's also overreacting and it's childish.
"I (stupidly) ask her how does she know it's a joke? She said: 'It better be with that ring!'
"I told her she's right that it's a joke but she's way over the top right now. I then get into bed and sleep."
The following day, the woman was still upset and the bloke seemed unable to understand what he fuss was about.
He said: "She's been crying off and on about me making a mockery of her and our relationship. I've said I'm sorry until I'm blue in the face.
"But a big part of me thinks she's also overreacting and it's childish. The ironic thing is I do plan to propose to her for real soon."
Unfortunately for this unnamed fella, his fellow Reddit users were not on his side.
One said: "Really bad move. Messing with her emotions, and honestly wasting her time."
While another agreed: "You were laughing at her and her dream of getting married.
"A dream that at this moment (but perhaps not for long) only you could have made come true for her. Only consider how cold and cruel what you did was."
A third said: "You better hope she doesn't leave you before you propose. She's not overreacting.
"You made a joke out of her feelings. She's probably crying because she knows what she has to do now.
"I know If I were her I'd definitely reconsider wanting to marry this person."
Meanwhile, one dad left his daughter furious after he missed her wedding to walk his step-daughter down the aisle.
Plus, this bride was left fuming with her 'tacky' step-mum who wore a white dress to her wedding and guests couldn't tell who was who.
And one woman admits she faked her own wedding to make her ex jealous and people call her crazy for it.
