The Queen laughed in Eamonn Holmes’ face after he cheekily asked her for an interview during his OBE ceremony – The Sun
EAMMON Holmes has revealed the Queen chuckled in his face when he cheekily asked if he could interview her.
The broadcaster met Her Majesty briefly when he went to Buckingham Palace last year to pick up his OBE.
Eammon was accompanied by wife Ruth Langsford for the occasion, and got a few minutes with the Queen after collecting the honour.
Eammon told Press Association: “She talked about breakfast television and asked me how long I had been doing it and I said 'too long'.
“I told her that I have interviewed almost every member of her family except her. I said, 'so you have got to put that right for me.”
Eammon said the Queen did not reply to his request, but simply laughed instead.
He added: “She laughed – I think that meant no.”
Eamonn is not the only star to have a funny story when meeting the Queen.
Comedian Michael McIntyre revealed that instead of calling Her Majesty “ma’am”, he got all tongue-tied and called her “jam" instead.
To make matters worse, the Queen then ended their chat swiftly and move onto the next person.
Michael revealed he had met the monarch when he was invited along with some other celebrities to go to Buckingham Palace in 2011.
Speaking of the moment, the comic said: “I got invited to meet the Queen and I kept looking at bank notes and getting excited and saying to myself ‘see you later’ and pointing.
“When I got to Buckingham Palace the doorman said ‘when you address her it is ma’am like jam’. All these famous people like Helen Mirren and Duffy are there mumbling ‘maam like jam’.”
He’s not the only celebrity to have had an awkward meeting of the Queen.
Michael Sheen said the Queen ‘shoved’ his hand away after he received his OBE as it was her way of showing him ‘it’s time to go’.
And Simon Pegg joked he’d ‘broken the Queen’ after she struggled to start a conversation with him in 2010 – and claims to have ‘made her cry’ with his performance.
In other royal news, we told you how the Queen owns a cheeky slogan cushion that reads "it's good to be Queen" – and she keeps it on her favourite sofa in Balmoral.
