You've been cleaning your kitchen all wrong – five hacks you should definitely include in your routine

KEEPING a squeaky clean kitchen can be pretty hard when there's oil splattering everywhere and food falling into small crevices.

But it's totally possible if you know just what you need to do and where to clean.

Here are five tips and tricks to keeping your kitchen tidy with none of the fuss:

CHECK BETWEEN YOUR STOVE AND COUNTER

One area of the kitchen that you most definitely have been neglecting is that spot between the stove and the counter.

Food slips through there, no matter how hard you try for it not to.

And let's not even talk about the splatter stains that have probably accumulated through the years.

Take some time to pull out your stove safely, vacuum up the bits of food on the floor and scrub off the stains. You won't regret it.

WASH DISHES IN THE RIGHT ORDER

Sorry to say but there's a proper order to washing your dishes: you must start with glasses and finish with your baking trays.

“Follow this order to keep your water and your dishes as clean as possible during the washing process: in hot, soapy water, begin by washing glasses, then lightly soiled dishes such as mugs, saucers, and side plates," Good Housekeeping previously reported.

“Next wash the large eating plates, followed by the cutlery. Do serving dishes, pans, and roasting tins last.“

What's more, marigolds (washing up gloves) is an absolute must as you’re able to have the water at much higher temperatures, meaning you’re more likely to dissolve stubborn grease and grime.

Finally, if you're struggling with stubborn grease on your pots and pans, then salt and baking powder are your best friends.

HOW TO LOAD A DISHWASHER PROPERLY

If you'd rather not do the dishes by hand, you can simply put them inside the dishwasher.

But before doing that, make sure to know how to actually load it so it does the best possible job.

"Tired of opening the dishwasher only to find that all of the lightweight plastic bowls, lids, and cups have been flipped over during the cycle leaving them filled with gunky water?" an anonymous poster wrote on Reddit.

"Use extra-large rubber bands to keep these items from tipping over.

"I have two of them in my dishwasher at all times — even if I don’t use them for a particular load. They work great!"

The person also shared a picture of a black plastic dish being held down by an elastic band secured to the plate rack.

In comments on the post, users wondered what would happen if the band became detached and somehow got caught up in the inner mechanisms of the dishwasher.

However, the poster insisted he's been doing the elastic band trick for years and has never had any issues.

GET RID OF STAINS IN TUPPERWARE

Everyone has that one Tupperware that they've given up on cleaning because it's just forever stained.

Well, there's a solution to getting rid of those stains.

On her TikTok page HomeThirtyOne, Grace shared a video of herself trying to get a stained Tupperware pot clean.

"A tip to get rid of stained Tupperware…" she began, before pouring boiling water from the kettle into the pot.

Once full, she dropped a Milton tablet in, and let it sit.

After the tablet had completely dispersed, the stains had also disappeared, with Grace exclaiming: "Look at the difference!"

Once rinsed out, the Tupperware is good as new again.

And given that a pack of 28 Milton sterilizing tablets costs around £1.89 – this works out at just 6p per tablet.

CLEAN YOUR FRIDGE

Cleaning fridges is probably something people do once a year or when they're moving into a new place.

Well, you should actually be cleaning it at least once a month to avoid any bacterias from growing and to help your food stay as fresh as possible.

“Here’s a couple of steps that I take to make fridge and freezer cleaning easier,” Amber Elise, owner of  Bubbles and Buckets, LLC, said in a video she posted to TikTok.

“The first thing I do is take out any drawers, any holders, any shelving, and let that soak in the sink with some Dawn dish soap,” she explained.

“It does the work for me and then I really don’t have to worry about those again.”

She added that having the fridge completely empty makes the next step easier, which is vacuuming any “debris or crumbs” away.

“So the product I’m using today is Scrubbing Bubbles Foaming Bleach,” Amber said as she sprayed it onto the vacuumed spaces.

“It’s really a no-brainer – it does the work for me, so it works perfectly for this.”

She then scrubbed the inside of the fridge from top to bottom, which she said she does on purpose.

Amber also explained that she left some shelves in because they were tricky to remove and didn't want to cause any damage to the client’s appliances.

Once she was done, she claimed the fridge “looks and smells amazing.”
