Body language expert says Kate Middleton was ‘ready to flee’ Archie’s christening

It was a big weekend for Archie Harrison: the two-month-old royal was christened over the weekend in a private ceremony in Windsor. Saturday’s ceremony was reportedly attended by 25 people, including Princess Diana’s sisters, Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale, Archie’s godparents (who have yet to be revealed), and his aunt and uncle, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The palace released two photos from the event, both of which were captured by photographer Chris Allerton. The first is a sweet black and white photograph of the new family of three, with Archie cradled by his mother. The second photo shows select members of the royal family in a very formal pose in Windsor Castle’s Green Drawing Room.

Not only were Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip missing from the milestone event (Her Majesty had a prior engagement), but royal fans were also quick to address just how “awkward” the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge looked.

“What an unhappy awkward couple,” wrote one Twitter observer. Said another, “That’s definitely a forced smile from our Kate.”

The photographs come amongst ongoing feud rumors between Harry and Will as well as Meghan and Kate. According to body language expert Judi James, these familial tensions were definitely evident in these new photos.

“With a very relaxed and jolly-looking Camilla down one end of this pose, Kate sits at the other looking oddly self-diminished and prim, with her arms pulled into her torso and a part-smile on her face,” said James to The Daily Mail.

“Given all the rift rumours the rather ‘ready to flee’ tension in her pose could be seen as awkwardness but it could also show a desire to lower her own status signals and not upstage the happy couple,” she continued.

Commonwealth Day has a special significance this year, as 2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the modern Commonwealth, with old ties and new links enabling cooperation towards social, political and economic development which is both inclusive and sustainable. The Commonwealth represents a global network of 53 countries and almost 2.4 billion people, a third of the worlds population, of whom 60 percent are under 30 years old. Each year the Commonwealth adopts a theme upon which the Service is based. This years theme A Connected Commonwealth speaks of the practical value and global engagement made possible as a result of cooperation between the culturally diverse and widely dispersed family of nations, who work together in friendship and goodwill. The Commonwealths governments, institutions and people connect at many levels, including through parliaments and universities. They work together to protect the natural environment and the ocean which connects many Commonwealth nations, shore to shore. Cooperation on trade encourages inclusive economic empowerment for all people – particularly women, youth and marginalised communities. The Commonwealths friendly sporting rivalry encourages people to participate in sport for development and peace.
