Celebrities with surprising and unusual hobbies, from hoarding insects to Johnny Depp’s Barbie doll collection

Celebrities are constantly in the spotlight wowing in sleek outfits with glam makeup and hair looks, but behind closed doors, when they’re not walking the red carpet or gracing us with their presence on TV screens, certain stars have some pretty random hobbies.

Our interest was peaked when we fixed our eyes on presenter Jonathan Ross’ epic man cave during an appearance on Loose Women whilst talking about life in lockdown.

In the background an eclectic conglomeration of comics, cult films, games, books and more could be spotted and, no, Jonathan’s hobby isn’t hoarding, but is instead comics, and characters from them!

Oh, and he’s not alone, with TV chef Gino D’Acampo also being a huge fan and, in his Hertfordshire home, he has an entire glass cabinet dedicated to Marvel and DC superheroes.

Which got us thinking – which other quirky celebrity hobbies are there out there? Let’s take a look…

Johnny Depp

  • Stacey Solomon shares details of her stunning necklace which has touching tribute to her sons

Movie star Johnny Depp, 57, enjoys collecting Barbie dolls in his free time and isn’t afraid to admit it.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live once that the dolls in fact aid him to “test characters,” and eluded to the idea that Barbie dolls have helped him with his career.

Tom Hanks

From one movie star to the next, and this time it’s the turn of Tom Hanks, 63, who is very fond a typewriter!

The Forrest Gump actor purchased his very first typewriter back in 1978, it has been reported, and his passion grew from there.

That typewriter then became the cornerstone of a collection which, nowadays, comprises of more than 100 typewriters… you just couldn’t write it!

Rod Stewart

From bikes to trains, Rod Stewart is quite the collector when it comes to the latter.

The 75 year old Sailing singer loves to get his hands on a model train and even has a favourite.

Discussing his model of Grand Central Staton in the 40s, which made the cover of Model Railroader, the star said: “It means more to me than to be on the cover of a music mag.”

Dan Osbourne

Former The Only Way Is Essex star Dan Osbourne has an entire room dedicated to lego at home, and proudly admitted to being a "geek" as a result.

Showing off the room, the star zoomed in on the Disney figurines standing outside the castle on an Instagram video, saying: “I’ve ordered a few more characters, I’ve still got about eight or nine more to come. I’ve got Aladdin, Jasmine, little alien, Jafar, the genie.

“But yeah have I got too much lego? I don’t know" as he continued to go through his collection saying: "We’ve got a ferris wheel going on and we’ve got the roller coaster to go with it."

The star has mounted insect and paintings of bugs around her home and it’s something of a museum for all things arachnid, with the star having a special love for spiders.

Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton once told The Sun: “I love frog hunting. I go at my ranches. I have one near Oakland, California, and another in Nevada, and I own an island. So I catch frogs and put them in a bucket and then let them go.”
