Charlie Hunnam may be best known for playing Jax Teller in Kurt Sutter’s epic biker drama, Sons of Anarchy, but he is one of the few TV stars who actually made a successful jump to the big screens. Outside of his role on Sons of Anarchy, here is a look at Hunnam’s best performances in front of the camera.
6. ‘Green Street’
Green Street was metwith mixed reviews when it first released, but it has since developed a cultfollowing. In the movie, Hunnam plays the part of a soccer hooligan who showsan American named Matt Buckner (Elijah Wood) the ins and outs of the sport’sillegal side.
The movie was released in 2005 and won a few awards. This includes taking home the honor of best feature at the Malibu Film Festival and the L.A. Femme International Film Festival. This may not be Charlie Hunnam’s best performance, but it is definitely worth a watch.
5. ‘Crimson Peak’
Crimson Peak saw Hunnamteam up with his longtime friend Guillermo del Toro. The gothic romance isabout a young bride who is taken to a creepy mansion only to find that her newhome is nothing what it seems. Not only do ghosts and other creatures roam freein the house, but she discovers that her husband married her for money and isplanning to end her life.
Hunnam has a minor role in the movie and plays the part of Dr. Alan McMichael. The film boasted a star-studded cast with the likes of Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, and Jim Beaver.
4. ‘The Lost City of Z’
The Lost City of Zmarked one of Charlie Hunnam’s first projects following the end of Sons of Anarchy. The movie is anadaptation of the award-winning book by David Grann and centers around thestory of a British explorer named Percy Fawcett. The movie follows Fawcett’s tragicattempt to discover a lost civilization deep in the Amazon.
Hunnam played the lead in the film and his performance was metwith generally positive reviews. According to TVOver Mind, critics praised the actor for his portrayal of Fawcett, callingit masterful. He was also nominated for best actor by the International OnlineCinema Awards.
3. ‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’
The legend of King Arthur has been adapted many times, but GuyRitchie was able to put an interesting twist on the tale. In Ritchie’s version,the sword, Excalibur, was the centerpiece of a story that was filled withfantastical elements. Charlie Hunnam played a young Arthur in the movie, whichintroduced the character as a streetwise young man with a history of violentencounters.
King Arthur: Legend of theSword was easily one of the largest projects Hunnam has worked on with abudget of $175 million. Although the movie did not receive great praise fromcritics, it managed to win Hunnam the Male Star of the Year from CinemaCon.

Pacific Rim is one ofthose movies that either you love it or hate it. While the film is chalked fullof plot holes, watching massive robots go toe-to-toe with strange creatureselevates this to one of Hunnam’s best movies to date. Hunnam played the part ofRaleigh Becket in the del Toro directed film.
His performance was so good that he was given the Hauding Awardfor Best Global Emerging Actor at the time. Charlie Hunnam, unfortunately, didnot reprise his role for the movie’s sequel.
1. ‘Papillon’
Papillon was a remakeof a ‘70s movie of the same name. The film follows the story of a wrongfullyaccused prisoner named Henri “Papillon” Charriere, who was sentenced to life inprison for a murder he did not commit. Charriere spent years on Devil’s Island,a penal colony in French Guiana, before making his escape.
Although the movie was met with average reviews, Charlie Hunnamreceived a lot of praise for his portrayal of Charriere. He also shared someintense scenes with Rami Malek, who has won a Golden Glove and an Academy Awardfor previous performances.
