Emmys: ‘Orange is the New Black,’ ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ Left Off Farewell Segment

Fox decided to set aside some time at this year’s Emmys to say farewell to some of the biggest shows which have left the small screen in recent months. However, while the brief segment highlighted landmark shows such as “The Big Bang Theory,” it was also marked by some notable omissions.

The segment only lasted around 90 seconds after “Empire” stars Terence Howard and Taraji P. Henson had finished introducing it. It showed some of the highlights from popular shows “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” “Gotham,” “Jane the Virgin,” “Broad City,” and “House of Cards” (unsurprisingly with no appearance by disgraced star Kevin Spacey), but surprisingly left out another significant Netflix show in “Orange is the New Black.”

The latter series not only helped establish the streamer as a content powerhouse in the first place, but also gained a handful of Emmy noms across its early seasons. To recognize one big Netflix show and not the other seemed a strange move.

Also left off the segment were shows like “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” (which won multiple Emmy during its run), “Legion,” and “You’re The Worst” among others, leaving the audience pondering how Fox decided which shows to bid farewell to and why the segment didn’t stretch a little longer to give more series a deserved send-off.

While it’s worth noting that shows such as “Orange is the New Black” and “Legion” will be eligible for next year’s Emmys, it might be considered a little too late to be recognizing them over a year after they’ve left the airwaves.

Neither “Game of Thrones” nor “Fleabag” featured in the clip, but it could certainly be argued that they received enough recognition throughout the rest of the ceremony, carrying home 12 and 6 Emmys respectively across the two weekends.
