‘Fabulous,’ one user wrote. ‘I’m so excited.’
Another simply exclaimed: ‘Eek!’
A third penned: ‘It’s nearly time Christmas begins.’
Seemingly alluding further to a skating theme, John Lewis captioned the Twitter post: ‘Christmas is ramping up #TheBeginner’ alongside an emoji of a board.
Sharp eyed shoppers started suspecting a link to the trendy sport since the brand on Monday took to social media to change its logo, replacing the ‘I’ in ‘Lewis’ with what appears to be a skateboard.

Theories about the ad circulated, as many suggested a Back to the Future theme is possible, whilst others hypothesised that Santa may be swapping his sleigh out for a new ride.
‘Christopher Lloyd recently hinted that he and Michael J Fox had a new project in the works,’ one user wrote on Facebook, in reference to the actor who played Marty McFly.
Another penned: ‘There could possibly be a retro theme ad coming? I’m thinking 80’s or 90’s.’
Elsewhere someone theorised: ‘Tony Hawk or Avril Lavigne are in the Xmas ad 100%.’

Another user added: ‘Maybe Santa is arriving by skateboard this year & not the sleigh x.’
‘I reckon it’ll be a remake of the snowman but instead of free flying, the lad and the snowman use a magical skateboard that fly them around,’ one poster explained. ‘Think snowman meets back to the future meets Aladdin.’
John Lewis’ 2021 ad was titled ‘Unexpected Guest’ and featured a young boy introducing an alien to Christmas traditions, before she emotionally departs back to her home planet.
It starred space traveller Skye crash-landing at the height of festivities in the woods near the home of 14-year-old Nathan, who introduces her to the traditions of eating mince pies, decorating the tree and, to her slight confusion, wearing novelty jumpers.
Viewers interpreted the ad as being about being inclusive of people who are different, and noted that it could echo the situation of a child refugee or acceptance and connection between people from different cultures.
