Girl ordered to undo 'inappropriate' Christmas hairstyle by school principal

Hilarious video: Grinch scares children taking Christmas photos

A New Jersey mom, Ashley Bohl, shared a hilarious video on Instagram of her children being scared silly by a prankster dressed as the Grinch. In the video, Bohl’s two children are sitting in a large chair where the kids were getting their pictures taken. Eventually, a prankster dressed as the Grinch comes out from behind a tree to pose with the youngsters, causing the Bohls’ son to take off running and crying, followed close behind by his sister.

Poppy Leigh, 13, showed up to school on Thursday with a mile-high hairdo full of Christmas cheer — only to be told she needed to take it down or go home.

The Wythenshawe, England, eighth-grader wrapped her ginger hair around an empty water bottle and then strung in Christmas lights, but her principal was not amused. The school, Manchester Health Academy, rang Poppy’s mother to tell her they didn’t find her daughter’s hairstyle appropriate.

Student Poppy Leigh, who fashioned her hair into a Christmas tree complete with lights, was recently told to take it out or be sent home from school.

“She just wanted to make things a bit more exciting,” Poppy’s mother, Christie, tells the Manchester Evening News.

“It’s just a bit of fun and Christmas cheer” before Poppy goes on Christmas break Friday, says the mom of three, adding, “I am quite upset really — it’s just bah humbug.”

Her hair — reminiscent of styles worn by residents of Whoville in Dr. Seuss’ holiday tale “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” — was not only a fun holiday look but also a mother and daughter collaboration.

“Poppy is always messing around with her hair. She walked in this morning and said ‘Mum, can I do my hair like this for school? It looks like a Christmas tree,’ ” says Christie. “She wrapped her hair around an empty bottle of Volvic water and then she asked me to put the lights in for her.”

The girl’s hair usually falls all the way down her back. “Her hair is usually down to her bottom. She refuses to let me cut it,” says Christie.

Principal Kevin Green insists the lit ‘do was inappropriate, and he had no choice but to tell the girl to take it out.

“The Academy has the highest of expectations around uniform and teaching and learning, and all through this week, staff and students have remained focused on learning,” he said.

Poppy, whom the principal calls a “wonderful student,” ultimately took out her holiday hair instead of going home.

Despite disciplining her, though, even the principal had to admit that, while it lasted, the hair was fun.

“[It] was a remarkably creative hairstyle,” says Green.
