Harry ‘was always going to fall for spiky woman like Diana’, says biographer

Prince Harry was always going to fall for a woman like his mother, Princess Diana , his royal biographer has claimed.

Angela Levin, who wrote 'Harry: Conversations with the Prince' in 2018, said Harry feels very connected to his later mother and previously told her that he "instinctively" knows what Diana would like him to do.

Writing about his marriage to Meghan Markle in The Telegraph , Levin said: "Harry, it seems, never wanted a "yes" woman who would quietly walk behind him on royal engagements but someone who was spiky, spicy and could stand her own ground."

She added he wanted a woman who was "beautiful, intelligent, warm, sexy and strong-minded with a touch of motherliness."

Meghan Markle was 36 when the pair began dating, the same age that Diana was when she died in 1997. Levin said this "synergy" may have encouraged his "hurry" to marry her, despite Prince William "suggesting caution over the speed of their relationship".

In their BBC interview after announcing their engagement in November 2017, Harry said he believed his mother "would have been over the moon" at the news, and that she had Meghan would have been "thick as thieves" and "best friends".

"She is with us. I am sure she is somewhere else jumping up and down and looking forward to being a grandmother."

Harry and Meghan caused widespread shock last Wednesday when they announced they would be stepping back from their roles as 'senior royals' and splitting their time between the UK and North America.

Crisis talks with the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William are expected to take place on Monday, amid claims that the couple announced their decision without notifying the Queen in advance.
