Have you been peeling carrots wrong your whole life?

You’ve been peeling carrots wrong your whole life: ‘Game-changing’ video showing the correct way to use a peeler takes the internet by storm

  • A man has discovered a simple way to peel carrots in just seconds
  • The video shows the British man peeling the carrot using both sides of the blade
  • He starts by running the peeler down the carrot from the base to the tip
  • Instead of peeling in one direction, he rotates the vegetable and peels back up
  • Turns out many home cooks have all been doing it wrong their whole lives

Most people peel their carrots from the base to the point in one direction away from their hand, but a video demonstration has emerged showing a much faster and efficient way of using the vegetable peeler.

The footage, posted on Reddit by an anonymous user, shows the British man visibly stunned by the ‘life changing revelation’ as he peeled the carrot using both sides of the blade.

He starts by running the peeler down the carrot from the base to the tip but instead of repeating this common step, he slightly rotates the vegetable and peels back up.

‘Oh my God, I just figured out how to use this… Who knew?’ the man said.

Hundreds of people were shocked by the ‘game changing’ method, with many admitting they never realised their peeler had both sides of the blade.

While others said they just assumed the double blades on the vegetable peelers were designed for left-handed people to use.

The method is commonly used by professional chefs – and you can peel the entire carrot using both blades without taking the peeler away from the vegetable.

It works every single time and you can also use the same technique to peel other vegetables such as potatoes and sweet potatoes.

The footage was uploaded on Reddit on Thursday, and quickly racked up more than 1,900 comments, with many saying they have been peeling carrots wrong their whole life.

‘Damn, I’ve been doing it by hand like a monkey this whole time,’ one said.

Another said: ‘That’s it, I am done, I quit. I am too old to find out I have been doing things wrong all my life.’

One person said: ‘This literally happened to me the other day when peeling a particularly difficult sweet potato. My life has changed forever.’

Another added: ‘I was today years old when I learned this… I’m dumb,’ while one admitted: ‘I still only peel in one direction: away from my hand. Call me crazy, but peelers are sharp.’

Some chefs commented on the thread, admitting they didn’t know about this method.

‘I’ve been trough gastronomy college and neither I or any or my professional chef teachers knew that,’ one said.

Another said: ‘This is one of my pet peeves! Even chefs don’t know how to use these and complain about them. I mean why would it have a two directional blade? You know it’s not for left handed people.’
