Inside Hollyoaks’ real-life couple Rory Douglas Speed and Nadine Mulkerrin’s romance

Rory Douglas Speed and Nadine Mulkerrin took their onscreen romance offscreen when they fell for each other on the set of Hollyoaks in 2016.
Fast-forward four years and the couple, who play characters Cleo McQueen and Joel Dexter on the Channel 4 soap, have got engaged, moved in together and had their first child, a son named Reggie.
The family live together in a gorgeous home, which has a jungle-themed nursery for Reggie, and a perfect bath tub for Rory to soak in after a long day filming.
As Nadine is still on maternity leave from Hollyoaks the couple are not currently working together, which Rory said was strange.
"When we first started seeing each other, people would ask if we found it difficult being around each other all the time," Rory explained. "But we just buzz off one another at work!

"It's strange having different schedules now, although it's good to get home and ask about Nadine's day like a normal couple! I do miss it a bit, though, I won't lie. She's a star."
But of course there's hope for the on-off onscreen pair to get back together, when Nadine eventually returns as Cleo!

How did Rory Douglas Speed and Nadine Mulkerrin meet?
Nadine has played Cleo McQueen since 2015, with Rory joining the soap the following year as Joel, Warren's son.
The two characters have had an on-off onscreen romance, which ultimately ended in a disastrous wedding in 2018 when Cleo called off their nuptials to focus on her recovery from bulimia, and ended up having a heart attack at the altar.
However, in real life the pair's romance started as a slow burner and blossomed into a wonderful relationship.
They first went public in 2017 as they jetted off to Bali together, and the following year as their onscreen characters battled to stay together the pair moved in, got engaged and had a baby together.
Are Rory Douglas Speed and Nadine Mulkerrin engaged?
Rory proposed to Nadine in December 2018 on a festive break to Amsterdam, which coincidentally came just after their Hollyoaks' characters' had ended their romance.
The couple announced the sweet news in Instagram posts, with Rory sharing a picture of a smiling Nadine holding up her hand to show her ring finger and captioning the post: "She said yes!! Swipe for reaction >>>>"
Meanwhile Nadine shared a collage of photos from a photobooth, simply writing in the caption: "Yes."
Nadine later penned in an Instagram post following an interview with OK! Magazine: "We never dared speak to each other at first on a night out after working together all day. So our makeup artist @layla_liverpool pushed me into Rory at the bar… A couple of years later she’s doing our make up for our engagement shoot."
Rory told OK! in the interview how nervous Nadine would say no: "It was terrifying. I felt like I was on my knee for an eternity and I remember saying: ‘Go on, just say something! I felt that she was always going to say yes because we always have a laugh about it, but in that moment when I was on my knee I thought, she’s saying no!"
Do Rory Douglas Speed and Nadine Mulkerrin have children?
At the British Soap Awards in June 2019, Rory and Nadine revealed they were expecting their first child together.
They posed in a sweet snap moments before they stepped onto the red carpet, with Nadine looking gorgeous wearing a while off-the-shoulder full length gown and cradling her small bump, as Rory looked on admiringly.
"That's us three ready for the @thebritishsoapawards," Nadine wrote as they were overwhelmed with congratulations in the comments.
In October 2019, the engaged couple welcomed their son Reggie, as Nadine announced the news alongside snaps of her and Rory meeting their son for the first time after giving birth.

In a post on his feed new dad Rory added: "We love you man. So proud of Nadine, I didn't think I could love her any more but my heart is bloody bursting! She was amazing throughout her labour. Women are seriously superhuman."
The couple recently celebrated Reggie's first birthday, with Nadine sharing a sweet snap of her son and his first birthday cake: "Happy 1st Birthday to my Special Boy. I love you from your chubby cheeks to your little toes and always will. First year of motherhood …. completed it mate!!!"
Rory shared his own snap of Reggie wearing a mini kilt: "Happy 1st birthday wee man! Can’t wait to bang more skirts on you over the years… you were clearly impressed… love you, Daddy."
