Kate and William more ‘hands-on and humble’ as royals cast off ‘wary’ body language

Kate Middleton and Prince William have been connecting with the public online and recently launched a new YouTube channel. This comes as the royals have increasingly used their social media platforms to show a glimpse of their lives.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have always shown themselves to be “hands-on” royals.
When making official appearances, and before the coronavirus pandemic, they were often found greeting fans and chatting with crowds.
In a recent Instagram post, the royals shared the news they had started a YouTube channel.
The caption read: “Better late than never – we’re now on @YouTube.”
The post consisted of a video montage from the royals recent outings, including some outtakes from their official announcements.
Commenting on this and other recent outings of Kate and Prince William, body language expert Judi James shared her analysis.
She explained the royals have shown their appreciation for the public as their own popularity has grown.
“They have learnt recently that they are gaining even more popularity with the public,” Judi told Express.co.uk.
“It’s important they have shown that the feeling is mutual.”
She added the Cambridges have increasingly looked “humble” and happy to be more personal with the public.
This is something that has increased during the coronavirus pandemic as they have had to swap public engagements for home videos, giving fans a rare look at their home life.
This was also apparent in their YouTube announcement post.
Judi continued: “This video starts with a special break-through moment in the relationship between this couple and their public.
“With the fast-paced and often self-effacing clips that follow, we’re shown a very real, unpretentious couple who lack vanity to the point where many of their clips show them with their back to the camera.
“They’re seen as hands-on and quite humble here rather than remote, formal royals being adored at a distance by crowds of flag-waving fans.”
This could show a modern approach to their royal roles as they remove any distance there may have been between Royal Family members and the public before, Judi suggested.
This also seems to have helped them become more relaxed compared to some “cautious” body language royals have displayed in the past.
The expert concluded: “William spent many years looking wary and cautious but this playful video suggests he’s finally relaxed and learnt how to enjoy his role, possibly with some prompting from his wife.
“So much has been spoken about royal ‘duty’ recently and even the idea that William is somehow ‘trapped’ in royal life.
“But what Kate and William have chosen to show here is a very close couple having fun with one another and with us, enjoying their time sharing jokes with the public rather than suffering under the weight of responsibility.”
