Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Under Fire For Keeping Archie's Christening Private

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are facing backlash for keeping Archie’s christening out of the public eye. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are having Archie christened on July 6, and the ceremony will take place within the confines of a private chapel inside Windsor Castle. Sources claim that Markle and Harry want to keep the christening private so they can share the moment with other members of the family. Royal watchers, however, are upset that they will not get to watch the ceremony until after the fact.

Archie gets a private christening

Inside sources claim that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry chose Windsor Castle because they wanted a peaceful location for the christening. Approximately 25 members of the family will attend the ceremony, excluding Queen Elizabeth. The couple plans to release photos from the event on social media the following day and is keeping the ceremony a private affair.  

“This is a beautiful milestone and they are excited to shareit as a family first and then with the world,” a source dished.

According to People,private christenings are nothing new to the royal family. In fact, most ofthese types of ceremonies are closed to the public and are only attended byclose members of the family. Sometimes friends are invited to the event alongwith the child’s godparents, but everyone else is excluded.

Harry and Markle have not announced who will be attendingArchie’s christening, though the photos should shed light on who was there.

Windsor Castle holds special place for Prince Harry and MeghanMarkle

Apart from being a private venue, there are other reasonswhy Harry and Markle settled on Windsor Castle for Archie’s christening. Forstarters, the couple tied the knot inside St. George’s Chapel in May of 2018,which is on the grounds of Windsor Castle. Princess Diana and Prince Charlesalso held Harry’s christening inside the chapel in 1984.

While Archie will be christened in the chapel, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children were christened in different locations. Prince George’s ceremony happened inside a chapel at St. James’s Palace, while Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis were christened at Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham estate.

The venue itself also holds a special place in the historyof the royal family. St. George’s Chapel was built during Queen Victoria’sreign and was completed in 1847. A fire in 1992 completely destroyed thebuilding and it was rebuilt to modern standards two years later.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle face backlash for christeningdecision

Fans have harshly criticized Harry and Markle for keeping Archie’s christening private. Royal watchers were disappointed that the ceremony was not televised, especially considering how they pay a portion of Harry and Markle’s expenses through taxes. The backlash comes after the couple was slammed for making British taxpayers pay over $2 million to renovate their house, Frogmore Cottage.

Harry, of course, is no stranger to criticisms. The Duke ofSussex has come under a lot of fire recently for making poor decisions over thepast year. This includes giving speeches about climate change and then ridingin helicopters across the country.

Piers Morgan, a host on GoodMorning Britain, has openly criticized Harry for several PR disasters,though it is not clear if Harry is following advice of others or doing thingson his own terms.

Queen Elizabeth to miss Archie’s christening

While Archie’s christening is a pretty big deal for Prince Harryand Meghan Markle, sources claim that Queen Elizabeth II will not attend theceremony. Her Majesty reportedly has previous engagements that will prevent herfrom joining the rest of the family at St. George’s Chapel this weekend.Elizabeth attended the christenings for Prince George and Princess Charlottebut missed the one for Prince Louis.

Sources also noted that Elizabeth’s decision to skip theevent is not related to health concerns. It is unclear what Elizabeth will bedoing on the day of the christening, but other important royals are expected toattend the event. This includes Prince Charles, Camilla Parker-Bowles, William,and Middleton. Meghan Markle is also reportedly flying in her mother, DoriaRagland, in time for the ceremony.

The royal family has not confirmed the reports surroundingArchie’s christening. Markle gave birth to her son six weeks ago and is stillon maternity leave.
