My stepfather monitors everything I do on social media and it's so embarrassing

DEAR DEIDRE:  MY stepfather demands the passwords for all my social media so he can keep an eye on me.

He’s not my real dad – who left Mum when I was little.

I’m a girl of 13 and my stepdad has been with Mum for four years. They don’t have kids together but I have a brother of 16.

I’ve been messaging a boy and my stepdad keeps commenting because I’m doing that when I should be asleep.

He sees what I’ve said to this boy. It’s embarrassing.

I think I should have a private life but there’s no chance of that with him around.

DEIDRE SAYS: You are entitled to some privacy and I am not comfortable with it being your stepfather who is monitoring your private life.

Talk to your mum and ask that if anyone checks your personal messages, it be her and not him.

I am on his side that it is not good for you to be on your phone late at night, however. Screens disrupt sleep patterns. Offer to leave your phone off, outside your bedroom.
