Nadiya Hussain on magic wrinkle removing serum, and the royals she’d love to bake for
The showbiz world is full of dermatologists, ready to inject away lines, but one famous face they won’t see in their waiting room is Nadiya Hussain. The Great British Bake Off star tells us she’s found her own instant wrinkle fix, and calls it “magic”.
Nadiya has just been signed up as the new ambassador for IT Cosmetics, fronting a confidence campaign, and one product in particular sounds handy in a world of hi-def television. Chatting to OK! about her beauty regime, she raves about the brand’s Bye Bye Lines Serum, £21 here, which sounds very much like Botox in a bottle to us.
“I swear by it, it is the most amazing serum. I cannot believe how one squish gets rid of fine lines. I have a little something happening here,” she says, pointing at her forehead. “And I will rub this in, wait and – gone. Magic! I've never ever loved a product more.”
She reckons a quick-fix skin serum is a far more appealing option than anti-wrinkle injectables. “They are something that I am definitely not thinking about right now. I’m not saying I wouldn't in the future but for now I just want something good value that does the job.”
One of the most down to earth women in showbiz, Nadiya tells us that she’s a real homebody with little love for glitzy celeb parties. “I get invited to loads, but I avoid red carpets like the plague. I would hate to be the worst dressed,” she says. “You know that's what people pick up, so I generally like to avoid them. But if I ever go to awards ceremonies, I love getting dressed up. Any excuse for a big old Amy Winehouse eyeliner.”
Nadiya tells us her family life remains happily unstarry. “I don't have a cleaner, I still have to do laundry and clean up after my smelly children,” she laughs. “Every dinner is not a spread! Sometimes it’s bits and bobs of everything to clear the fridge out. I use a microwave, and I love a bit of instant mash. But we do have cake every single day.”
And why not, when it’s clearly the way to her husband Abdal’s heart? “His favourite thing in the whole wide world is my sticky ginger and pear cake. If I make him that I can pretty much get him to do anything!” she grins.
Her baking skills have proved equally irresistible to royalty. Nadiya made the late Queen’s 90th birthday cake, and remembers it warmly as “a wonderful thing, just to actually be able to meet her. That’s one for the records. When the kids are older they’ll be able to say to their kids, ‘Granny baked a cake for the Queen!’ I hope she liked it.”
Nadiya now fancies getting the royal seal of approval from a new generation – the Wales family. “I've made a meringue roll with Prince William on TV, he's very cool and very down to earth. I'd love to make a cake for them.”
