Normani’s ‘Motivation’ music video honors iconic Beyoncé, Britney outfits

Normani can’t get enough of the early aughts.

On Friday, the Fifth Harmony alum, 23, dropped her debut solo single “Motivation” along with an accompanying music video that’s packed with clever references to the pop icons who came before her.

Early in the clip, Normani struts down the street in a cropped white tank top and low-rise denim, the same pairing Beyoncé sported in her 2003 video for “Crazy in Love.”

In a later sequence, the star dances in a schoolyard clad in a sporty pink and white matching set reminiscent of Britney Spears’ look from her 1998 “…Baby One More Time” visuals. Normani further salutes the decade via her “1996” crop top, a nod to the year she was born.

Next, it’s back to Beyoncé for a rain-soaked scene that sees Normani busting a move in a metallic two-piece, à la “Baby Boy.”

And finally, Normani takes cues from Ciara circa “1, 2 Step” in a black bra top, low-slung pants and hoop earrings.

It seems Normani and her “Motivation” co-writer Ariana Grande share more than just powerful pipes; they also love to pay homage to iconic pop cultural moments.
