Passenger recalls BA hostess’s act of kindness on flight weeks before death
An airplane passenger has recalled her heartwarming encounter with a "kind" air hostess who was killed in a horror car crash just weeks into starting her job.
Rachel Clark, 20, was one of three cabin crew members who tragically died in the smash near Heathrow Airport just minutes before the start of 2020.
Holly Berry revealed on Facebook that she had met Rachel on a flight two weeks ago with her partner Mike – and told how the air steward had given them champagne to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary.
She wrote: "Mike and I met Rachel Clarke on our short flight just 2 weeks ago. She was so kind and friendly. She even gave us champagne to celebrate our 40th wedding Anniversary.
"She also said she would be spending Christmas in Texas on her first long haul flight.
"Mike and I would like to send our deepest sympathy to Rachel's family and friends at this sad time. Rachel was so excited for her future at BA, such a kind and friendly young lady. RIP Rachel may you continue to fly with the stars."
Rachel and colleagues Joe Finnis, 25, and Dominic Fell, 23, were killed when the white Toyota Yaris they were travelling in collided with a white Mercedes HGV in Stanwell, Surrey.
A fourth BA mixed fleet member – a 25-year-old woman – was in a serious condition in hospital.
More than £50,000 has been raised to support the crash survivor and the families of the three deceased victims.
In November, Ms Clark, from London, posted photos showing her and new colleagues in their uniforms at a training centre, writing on Facebook: "What a crazy 6 weeks it has been!
"Thank you to everyone that has supported me along the way and to this fabulous group of people for making these weeks bearable! The start of a new chapter."
She worked her first flight just four days later and had excitedly posted updates during her travels.
In December, she posted photos from her first two trips – to Gothenburg, Sweden, and Lisbon, Portugal – with the snaps showing her touring the cities and hanging out with colleagues.
"Trips 1 and 2 complete," she wrote.
Just days before she was killed, she worked her first long-haul flight – to the US city of Seattle.
On Boxing Day, she shared images of the journey and herself in front of landmarks, including the Space Needle, writing: "What a beautiful city."
According to her Facebook page, she had previously worked for the Harlequins rugby union team in Twickenham, and attended Gumley House Convent School in Hounslow and Kingston College.
Mrs Berry has been approached by Mirror Online for comment.
