Penny Lancaster has revealed how she ‘fell in love at first sight’ with her rescue dog Blondie in heartwarming scenes filmed for Paul O’Grady’s: For the Love of Dogs.

The former model, 48, shows off her adorable Labradoodle, Blondie, on tomorrow’s ITV show, which airs at 8pm.

She had her husband Rod Stewart, 74, decided to welcome an unwanted dog into their Essex home, after the idea of adopting a child was vetoed by their sons, Alistair, 13, and Aidan, 8.

instead, they took on Blondie, who was left at Battersea when she became too boisterous for her previous owner to handle.

Helped by presenter Paul, staff at the dogs home trained the pooch and taught her plenty of exercises with toys to keep her occupied.

Penny, who’s seen joyfully playing with her new pet at her home in Essex, said she fell in love with Blondie when she first met her.

She recalled: ‘It was kind of love at first sight. She’s amazing.’

Blondie has a new pal in Penny’s other dog, Bubbles, with the mother-of-two adding that the two animals are ‘inseparable’ except for when they fight over their Celtic football toy.

Penny said: ‘The two of them are just inseparable. This is Daddy’s. Everyone has to be a Celtic fan, and it is the one toy that they fight the most over and normally they play tug of war with this.’

Earlier this year, Penny, who shares her two sons Alastair, 13, and eight-year-old Aidan with husband Rod, revealed that she and the rocker, who is a father-of-eight, previously considered expanding their brood through adoption.

Speaking on Loose Women in June, the former model admitted while the power couple pondered on growing their family, their children weren’t keen on the idea, and insisted on ‘getting a puppy instead’.

The TV personality, who has been married to the musician since 2007, shared: ‘We considered adopting.

‘But having discussed it with the little ones they said they loved out little brood the way that it is and there might have been too much of an age gap. So we’re getting a puppy instead’, she added.

Penny went on to explain that although the couple have space for another child and felt they had ‘extra love and fun’ to offer, they had to take the feelings of their own children into account before making the decision.

Speaking about her puppy at the time, she said: ‘It’s a mix between a lab and a poodle so it’s a labradoodle… it’s a girl and it’s blonde so we think [we’ll call her] Blondie.’
