‘Selfish’ woman slammed for naming newborn daughter ‘weird’ baby name

Parents often have a difficult time choosing their baby’s name.

After all, while it won’t define them, their name is an integral part of who they are.

Baby books and endless internet searches are common.

But, what would you do if a family member chose a name you hated?

One woman had just that issue when her sister chose a name for her niece which the woman despised.

Posting on Reddit, the woman asked for advice after her sister had a daughter and named her an unusual name.

Have you heard of a more unusual name? Tell us in the comments…

The moniker the woman’s sister chose was “Cool”.

Writing online, the new aunt said: “When I found out my only sibling was having a baby, I was ecstatic.

"I love to write so I’ve always had a love for names.

"My sister decided to keep the name a secret which made me so anxious and excited to find out what she would choose.”

She continued: “Was it something fantasy like? Something simple and in the top 50? Something familial?

"My sister and her husband are both corporate type people so I didn’t think it would be anything crazy.

"Well.. they decided to name their daughter – Cool.”

The woman had an issue with the unusual name.

She said: “Yup. Her name is Cool! What?!

“What type of Hollywood a** name is that?!

"When they told us, I thought they were joking.

"I had guessed so many times and my sister told me I would never guess it. Well she was right!”

She added: “And my brother in law's (my sister didn’t change her last name) last name is a natureesuqe name, think Summer, Rivers, Meadows (it’s one of those).”

Explaining her sister’s decision, she added: "My sister and her husband said that they couldnt decide anything besides they wanted the name to be “cool” so they called the baby “cool baby” and it just stuck to “Cool” and they decided to keep it.”

Lots of people on the Reddit thread also questioned the name.

One person said: “Please tell me they gave the kid a normal middle name so she at least has something to fall back on?"

To which the aunt said: "Her middle name is her fathers name! In his family that’s how they do it.”

“Oh.. oh no. That poor person,” commented a reader.

Another said: “Did they forget that babies grow up to be adults?"

A second person wrote: "It is hard to imagine them not having serious name regret. I doubt they will get a single genuine positive reaction from anyone.

"If you want to be different and 'cool', give your pet a weird name, not your child. This just comes off as very selfish."

A third person added: "I actually went to primary school with a girl called Cool.

"She was overall a pretty cool person and in a way the name suited her however, I personally don’t like the name."
