‘The only high end thing about the Apple headphones is the price,’ tweeted a third.

Some complained that there appeared to be no Apple branding immediately obvious on the product, noting that they looked like cheaper options from other brands.

Some were furious that the headphones cost the same as a PS5 Digital Edition.

Some have joked that with such a high price, the AirPods Max better have some particularly amazing features.

Apple says the pricey headphones have active noise cancellation to block out unwanted sounds from outside, as well as spatial audio and ‘adaptive EQ’ — which automatically tunes the low- and mid-frequencies of the music to the shape of an individual’s ear  — for better quality.

They are available in five colors: space grey, silver, sky blue, green, and pink.

Apple claims the new headphones deliver the ‘ultimate personal listening experience’ by combing custom acoustic design, with hardware and software.

AirPods Max require a device running iOS 14.3 or later, macOS Big Sur 11.1 or later, or watchOS 7.2 or later to operate and set up.

They include the H1 chip, which is featured in the newer generation versions of the AirPods and allows for a number of sensors and features within the device.

This includes automatic switching so users can ‘seamlessly move sound’ between the iPhone, iPad, and Mac — as is already possible with the AirPods.

AirPods Max automatically detect when they are on a user’s head using the optical and position sensors and, like the original AirPods, can automatically pause the sound when you lift them away from your ears.

‘AirPods are the most popular headphones in the world, beloved for their effortless setup, incredible sound quality, and iconic design,’ said Greg Joswiak, Apple Senior VP of Worldwide Marketing.

‘With AirPods Max, we are bringing that magical AirPods experience to a stunning over-ear design with high-fidelity audio,’ he added.
