Taylor Swift's Eras Tour movie is nominated for a Golden Globe

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour movie gets a Golden Globe nomination for Box Office Achievement after raking in $250 MILLION worldwide – and will go up against year’s biggest films including Barbie and Oppenheimer

  • The awards show will take place on January 7, 2024, in Beverly Hills, California
  • The hitmaker, 33, is up for the award for Cinematic and Box-Office Achievement
  • She is competing against Barbie, Oppenheimer, among others

Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour was one of the most sought after concerts in history, and now, it may earn the singer her first ever Golden Globe.

The nominations for the annual award show were announced this morning, and the hitmaker, 33, is up for the award for Cinematic and Box-Office Achievement – a brand new category – for her concert movie, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.

Taylor’s movie – which has grossed an estimated $249 million worldwide – is competing against a slew of other impressive films: Barbie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, John Wick: Chapter 4, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1, Oppenheimer, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

This marks Taylor’s fifth Golden Globe nomination but would be her first win. She was previously nominated for Best Original Song four times for her hits Safe & Sound from The Hunger Games, Sweeter Than Fiction from One Chance, Beautiful Ghosts from Cats, and Carolina from Where the Crawdads Sing.

The Golden Globes announced in September that it was adding two new categories to its awards – including Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television and the one that Taylor is in the running for.

The latter ‘includes nominees from among the year’s highest-earning and/or most viewed films that have gained extensive global audience support and attained cinematic excellence,’ per Box Office Pro.

This marks Taylor’s fifth Golden Globe nomination but would be her first win. She was previously nominated for Best Original Song four times. She’s seen at the awards in 2020

To be eligible for the award, the flick had to gross more than $150 million at the box office, and $100 million of the profit had to come from US sales.

‘We are proud to recognize the hard work and innovation that goes into making a film that is both a blockbuster and artistically exceptional,’ Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne said at the time.

Vice President Tim Gray added, ‘The new Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award is more than just rewarding the year’s top earning and most viewed motion pictures.

‘These films have typically not been recognized among industry awards, but they should be.’

Pollstar reported earlier this month that The Eras Tour movie had grossed more than $1 billion, making it the first concert movie to reach that number.

The film was history making – it generated $26 million in pre-sale tickets alone and broke the single-day ticket sales records in a mere three hours.

The awards show will take place on January 7, 2024, in Beverly Hills, California, and will air on CBS.

Barbie dominated the nominations and is up for a whopping total of nine awards, but was closely followed by Oppenheimer, which received eight nominations.

Taylor certainly had a huge year – she embarked on her immensely popular Eras Tour back in March, which sold 4.3 million tickets across 60 tour dates so far, and is set to continue across Europe and Asia next year.

When tickets for the tour first went on sale last year it launched a major frenzy as millions tried to get their hands on a ticket, ultimately crashing the website that sold them, Ticketmaster, leaving millions disappointed, and ultimately sparking a highly-publicized war between Swifties and Ticketmaster.

She also released two re-recordings of her albums – Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) – and is still soaring from the success of her 10th studio album Midnights, which came out last October.
