Who's Officially the Most Popular Royal Family Member?

Over the past couple of years, Megan Markle and Prince Harry have been making a lot of headlines. There has even been a lot of talk that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex might even be more popular than other members of the royal family. Some have gone far enough to say they might be better suited for the throne.

It turns out that none of that is very true. When it comes to who is officially the most popular royal family member, Meghan Markle isn’t even in the top five.

This is probably more surprising to Americans because she is living the dream. On the other side of the pond, British tabloids and paparazzi have painted a very different picture of the Duchess. At times they have gone far enough to try and destroy her good name.

According to Now To Love, the 2019 Opinium Monarchy Tracker surveyed 2,003 UK adults, and the results might shock you. Who’s officially the most popular royal family member?

Who is the most popular duchess?

When it comes to the royal family, right now the four main women include Queen Elizabeth, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall (Prince Charles’ wife), Duchess Catherine (Kate Middleton), and the Duchess of Sussex (Meghan Markle).

The queen is ahead of all the women with a 70 percent approval rating. That can be expected from the longest reigning monarch in British history. Not only does she have a high approval rating, but her reign has had the biggest changes of all previous monarchs.

Kate Middleton came in second, with a 62 percent rating. Her score is the highest of all three Princes’ wives. Her husband Prince William has been one of the people’s favorites for a long time. Some suggesting the Queen should hand the throne to him, rather than her own son.

Meghan Markle came in with a 39 percent rating. This was not the lowest, but it is a shock to many people. The lowest approval rating of 24 percent, went to Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

Which prince is the people’s favorite?

There are three main men, that the Opinium surveyed. Prince Charles who is first in line to the throne, after Queen Elizabeth, came in last. He had only a 40 percent approval rating. There are a lot of reasons why so many people dislike him, but for the most part, it has to do with his treatment of the late Princess Diana. She was after all the People’s Princess.

Prince William, on the other hand, had the highest popularity rating. With 73 percent of respondents approving of his role.

His brother came in a close second at 70, although when asked if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have an important job to do, they received a 74. And despite Markle’s low rating, and the public bashing by the media, 64 percent agreed with them about keeping the pregnancy, birth, and baby Archie out of the news.

Why he is officially the most popular royal family member

Although many Americans would have voted very differently, the British people seem to respect Prince William and his wife the most. It makes sense if you think about from their perspective.

First, he will at some point inherit the throne. His brother, Prince Harry is not likely to, because he is behind William’s children.

Second, the British people look at Kate Middleton as being more worthy of her title. She is not only English but she also grew up in the same inner circle as the royals. The people and the media look at the two women in completely different lights.

Of course, Prince William and Kate Middleton have a higher popularity ranking, after all, the people want to see them succeed Queen Elizabeth.
