Alex Telles to miss start of Man Utd’s Premier League season after Roma transfer target suffers ankle injury

Manchester United defender Alex Telles will be out for a "few weeks" after sustaining an ankle injury, revealed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Brazilian left-back played in United's 2-1 pre-season victory over Derby County last weekend but will miss next week's friendlies against Brentford and Preston North End.

Speaking before a pre-season game against QPR on Saturday, Red Devils boss Solskjaer said: "Unfortunately, Alex slipped and he twisted his ankle so he'll be out for a few weeks.

"We're hoping that it's not going to be too bad but he'll be out for a little while."

Telles played 24 times for Man Utd last season but ultimately played second fiddle to Luke Shaw.

Meanwhile, Man Utd kick off the upcoming season with a home match against fierce rivals Leeds at Old Trafford on August 14.

And the match could see new signing Jadon Sancho make his long-awaited debut for the club.

Sancho was confirmed as Man Utd's new signing earlier this week when he sealed his £73million move from Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking about the transfer, Sancho told United's official website: "I’ll always be grateful to Dortmund for giving me the opportunity to play first team football, although I always knew that I would return to England one day.
