Amazing machine uses laser to engrave match report in seconds onto South Africa star Handre Pollard’s POTM award – The Sun

THIS incredible machine uses lasers to engrave the Player of the Match trophies at the Rugby World Cup in a matter of seconds.

Handre Pollard received the silverware etched with real-time highlights after South Africa's 19-16 win over Wales.

Mastercard have blended Japan's heritage with its love for cutting-edge technology to produce the new awards.

The machine uses an advanced computer programme to keep an eye on social media activity during the match.

And commentary from the official World Cup live feed is etched onto the trophy.

A video of the machine in action sent fans wild when it went viral on Twitter.

The caption read: "It's half time and the #POTM trophy is having key moments from the first half etched into it. A complete one-off."

Former England international Jason Robinson replied: "This is awesome!!! Well done @MastercardUK."

While another fan said: "And….. Wow!! Stunning."

But other supporters questioned whether there were enough good moments from the game to be printed onto the trophy.

One said: "It's impressive they have found that much good stuff to write."

And another Twitter user added: "Picking a player of the match from that is a big challenge."

But it could be worse – one footballer player from Malawi received a live chicken for his man of the match performance earlier this year.
