Bowyer’s Charlton laugh off Romania friendly farce with Marbella night out at celebrity hot spot La Sala – The Sun
LEE BOWYER took Charlton on a night out in Marbella after their bizarre pre-season friendly.
The Addicks, newly promoted to the Championship, attended the luxury La Sala restaurant after farcical scenes in their first warm-up match.
Bowyer's side are currently based in Malaga for their training camp.
And Charlton took on Romanian top-flight team Gaz Metan Medias to get into the groove – but the game didn't reach full-time.
The match broke into a melee after the London side were awarded a penalty.
And by the end of the scrap two Gaz Metan Medias players were sent off for man-handling the official.
Due to the so-called friendly nature of the game, Charlton said they were happy for the players to be subbed rather than sent off.
But the furious referee insisted that the red cards should stand.
The Romanian outfit were furious about the decision and walked off the pitch, ending the game in the 49th minute.
Bowyer's side had been leading 1-0 before the incident.
The bizarre scenes continued as Lyle Taylor still took the penalty, scoring past one of his team-mates.
Bowyer's boys are not the first athletes to attend La Sala restaurant.
Former world champion heavyweights Anthony Joshua and David Haye have attended the eatery which is co-owned by football agent Rob Segal.
