Chase Young’s NFL draft ‘plan’ could be Giants nightmare
Hide your eyes, Giants fans. Your dream first-round pick may have other plans.
Chase Young, the monster defensive end from Ohio State most believe is the best NFL prospect in the country, told TMZ sports “the plan” is for him to return to school for his senior year.
Young, in town as one of the four finalists for the Heisman Trophy presentation Saturday night, also said he wasn’t thinking about the NFL draft.
He made similar comments on Friday during Heisman availability, though he didn’t suggest a return to school was in the works. Young said he was focused on the College Football Playoff and Clemson, the Buckeyes’ semifinal opponent Dec. 28 in the Fiesta Bowl.
“I ain’t even worried about the next level too much,” Young said on Friday. “If that happens, it’ll happen. I’m just worried about Clemson right now, and you know, trying to study up on them.”
This is how the TMZ interview, in which it caught Young walking in the street under an umbrella, went.
TMZ: “You focused at all on the draft this year?”
Young: “Nah.”
TMZ: “You going back to school?”
Young: “That’s the plan.”
He will have until Jan. 20 to make a decision.
The 6-foot-5, 265-pound defensive end led the nation with 16.5 sacks and racked up 21 tackles for loss, three passes defensed and six forced fumbles despite being suspended two games for an NCAA rules violation for allegedly accepting a loan from a family friend.
He’s been the apple of Giants’ fans eye for a while, the potential one bright spot in this disastrous season. But now Young suggested he may be thinking about sticking around college for one last season.
