Chelsea to send starlet Dujon Sterling on loan to Wigan after Reece James’ successful spell – The Sun

CHELSEA are ready to send right-back Dujon Sterling to Wigan – to follow in Reece James’s footsteps.

Sterling, 19, is in talks with Latics about a season long loan and taking over from James, also 19, who made the same move and was a huge success.

Wigan hope Sterling accepts their offer despite rival interest and picks them for his next loan spell after a successful spell with Coventry.

So strong was James' spell at the DW Stadium, Frank Lampard is now set to make him his starting right-back, according to reports.
James is currently recovering from an ankle injury sustained for the England Under-20s at the Toulon Tournament.

But he is now ramping up his preparations to get fit for the start of the Premier League campaign.

He will join fellow academy graduates Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount in the senior set-up at Chelsea.

Youngsters at the Blues are set to get more of a chance with the club unable to bring in new recruits because of their current transfer ban.

Both Abraham and Mount shone in the Championship at Aston Villa and Derby County respectively last term and have impressed throughout pre-season.

Meanwhile, Wigan boss Paul Cook is also close to clinching a £1million-plus deal for midfielder Joe Williams from Everton.
