The Los Angeles Dodgers have been hammered by injuries all season, and they suffered another major one Saturday night.

Starting shortstop and 2020 World Series MVP Corey Seager will be placed on the injured list with a fractured right hand after he was hit by a pitch Saturday night against the Miami Marlins.

Seager joins Cody Bellinger, AJ Pollock, Zach McKinstry, David Price, Dustin May and several relievers on the injured list for the Dodgers, who have won five of six games after dropping 14 of their previous 18.

“I think that we’re all concerned about him and the extent of the injury,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. “Obviously, you don’t want to lose any player for an extended period of time.”

Seager was clipped on the back of his right hand by a fastball from Marlins pitcher Ross Detwiler in the fifth inning of the Dodgers’ 7-3 win on Saturday.

Infielder Yoshitomo Tsutsugo was acquired earlier Saturday from the Tampa Bay Rays, but the Dodgers (22-17) are expected to mostly play Gavin Lux at shortstop while Seager is sidelined. The team also reportedly will sign three-time former MVP Albert Pujols on Monday.

Seager, a two-time All-Star, is batting .265 with four home runs and a .783 OPS in 37 games this season. He hit .328 with eight home runs in 18 games during the postseason last fall, winning MVP honors in both the NLCS and the World Series.
