Cricket World Cup team of the tournament sees FOUR England stars named, including Archer and Stokes – The Sun

BEN STOKES, Jofra Archer, Jason Roy and Joe Root have all been named in the Cricket World Cup team of the tournament.

England won a staggeringly tense final against New Zealand thanks to a Super Over at the death — and only lifted the trophy by virtue of the number of boundaries they scored.

Stokes' calm nerves and batting heroics nudged England back into the final, while Archer's bowling undoubtedly set up the platform for the tournament win.

Roy and Root were also named in the team after huge contributions to the victory.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson was named captain of the team of the tournament, while Australian pace bowler Mitchell Starc was in after setting an all-time tournament high of 27 wickets.

Black Caps strike bowler Lockie Ferguson also got in, as did India's Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma.

We would have been devastated if we hadn't managed to lift that trophy.

Stokes was nursing a hangover and sleep deprivation as he headed to an event at the Oval where he met hundreds of schoolkids.

He said: "I've woken up in better conditions, but it's an incredible feeling.

"I don't know if it's sunk in yet but coming down here and seeing what a small portion of the support we've had feels about it…the kids, the adults…these feelings are something we will hold on to forever.

"We would have been devastated if we hadn't managed to lift that trophy.

"But looking back over that game I think it will go down in the history books as the best ever, with all the drama of a World Cup final.

"It's an amazing thing to be part of."
