Euro 2020 draw: England guaranteed to play Scotland in group if Tartan Army qualify setting up repeat of Euro 96 classic – The Sun

FRIDAY'S Euro 2020 play-off draw confirmed that England will face one of Scotland, Norway, Serbia or Israel in next summer's tournament.

With the group stages largely determined by host nations, several teams have already been allocated their spot.

England were already set for Group D, where all games take place at Hampden Park and Wembley.

Therefore if Scotland are to progress, they will be on a collision course with Gareth Southgate's side in what will be a rematch of their Euro 96 epic.

On that occasion, Wembley witnessed Alan Shearer and Paul Gascoigne net as Three Lions hero Gazza performed his legendary dentist's chair celebration.

The rivals also met in qualification for the 2018 World Cup, England cruising to a 3-0 win in London before Harry Kane snatched a point north of the border following two spectacular Leigh Griffiths' free-kicks.

And Friday's draw saw UEFA guarantee that whichever side qualifies from Scotland's play-off path will join England in Group D.

The Tartan Army welcome Israel to Glasgow for their March semi-final, the victor facing a trip to Norway or Serbia in a winner-takes-all showdown.

With four of the six groups guaranteed to take a play-off winner, Wales now know that they will definitely take on Italy's Group A or Belgium's Group B.

That means away days in Rome and Baku if they face the Azzurri with Denmark and Russia the hosts in Group B, both of those teams having also qualified.

Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland take on Slovakia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, respectively, in their play-off semi-finals.

The winner of those four teams is destined to land in Group E at the Euros, containing host nation Spain.

Bilbao's San Mames will host all three of La Roja's matches with the other games taking place in Dublin's Aviva Stadium.

Because of the teams involved in the other two play-off paths, it is still to be confirmed which winning play-off team will play in which group – but they will certainly be placed in either Group C with the Netherlands and Ukraine or Group F with Germany.
