Ex-France rugby international Ibrahim Diarra dies aged 36 after heart attack and multiple strokes in Paris hospital – The Sun

FORMER France rugby international Ibrahim Diarra has died in Paris aged 36.

The flanker had been in hospital in a critical condition since Friday and eventually died after a cardiac arrest and subsequent strokes.

Diarra starred in the back row and was capped just once by Les Bleus – against Italy in 2008.

The former Castres player suffered numerous strokes after being admitted, which caused irreversible brain damage.

Former coach Laurent Travers told French outlet AFP: "He brought laughter and a ray of sunshine. He gave everything on the field."

French Rugby Federation president Bernared Laporte also offered his condolences.

He tweeted: "I’m devastated that he could go so soon.

"We will always remember his smile, and an eternal memory of a great rugby player.

"My most sincere condolences to the family and those close to Ibrahim Diarra."

Diarra retired from rugby in 2018 having started his career with Montauban before going on to lift the Top 14 title with Castres in 2013.
