FLOYD MAYWEATHER is "passionate about becoming a great trainer" despite rumours he will make a comeback to the boxing ring.

The 43-year-old announced online that he will try his hand at coaching after being inspired following the death of his uncle Roger, who cornered him throughout his career.

And despite confirming he would lace up the gloves again for £500million to potentially face UFC pair Conor McGregor or Khabib Nurmagomedov, the retired American's attention is said to be on training fighters.

Mayweather promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe told BoxingScene: “Boxing is his first love. It’s the first thing he knew how to do.

"When you have setbacks or are going through things, that’s what you turn to. It’s your safe haven. He likes being around the gym.

“He’s really passionate about becoming a great trainer. When he makes up his mind to do something, he does it.

"He’s in the gym, putting in the work and perfecting his craft as a trainer.”

Mayweather recently shared footage only holding the pads for his son Kouran and nephew Chris.

He later worked on defence drills with 11-0 lightweight Rolando Romero, 24, who he also promotes.

Mayweather has maintained he is a retired fighter, citing he has nothing left to prove against recognised boxers.

But he said he is not "retired from business" as he appeared to open the door for another crossover fight against either McGregor – who he beat in his final fight in 2017 – or UFC champion Nurmagomedov.

Mayweather told FightHype: “If I see an opportunity where I can entertain and have a little fun and make six hundred million, why not? If I am going to do something it’s got to be worth it.

"But there’s no number that’s worth me getting back in that ring and fighting these young fighters to get any type of wear and tear on my body.

“Am I going to fight any fighters as of right now? No. I’m retired. I’m retired from the sport of boxing.

“I’m training, having fun, and enjoying life. I don’t want for nothing. I’m not retired from business."
