Golf tips and betting offers – three picks from the WGC Workday Championship

THE WGC Workday Championship at The Concession takes centre stage this week.

The event, which was supposed to be in Mexico, takes place in Florida, and is one of the four WGCs of the season.

Max Homa secured a dramatic play-off victory last week at the Genesis, beating Tony Finau after two sudden death holes.

But Finau is among our tips for this week, along with an Aussie and a Brit.

Paddy Power are offering new customers a risk free £20 bet, which you can claim here*.

To take advantage of the offer simply sign up, and place a £20 bet on any sportsbook market, and if it loses Paddy Power will refund you in cash.

The field is stacked with world No 1 Dustin Johnson the favourite, ahead of Jon Rahm, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay and Rory McIlroy.

And SunSports golf correspondent David Facey gives his tips for the event.

WGC Workday Championship tips

Hot tip – Tony Finau, 20-1.

I get it, he doesn’t know how to win, with his only victory coming in a second tier event in Puerto Rico five years ago. But you could still argue that he is the hottest player in the game right now.

His play-off defeat at Riviera last weekend was his third runner-up finish in a row – and he finished fourth before that hat-trick of near misses.

He is going to get over the line some time, and until then he represents great each way value.

Medium price – Cameron Smith, 45-1

The Aussie seemed to take a while to get over his Masters exertions, where he was the only player to apply any pressure on Dustin Johnson before having to settle for a share of second place.

But he looked to be right back at it when he finished fourth at Riviera last week, and this is another event when his magic putting touch will probably be worth more than a few extra yards off the tee.

Long(ish)-shot – Matthew Fitzpatrick, 50-1

When the going gets tough, the young Englishman really gets going, as he showed again with a gritty display to finish in a share of fifth at the Genesis.

And the signs are that this won’t be a 20-odd under par birdie-fest either.

The Concession course in Florida, will be new ground for everyone, apart from Bryson DeChambeau, who won a big college title there six years ago.

It would be great to see a man half his size take the honours this time!
