Ross received his marching orders after Wednesday's 1-0 defeat to Livingston.
The result left Hibs with one victory in nine league matches and languishing in seventh, 11 points off third.
The decision comes just over a week before the Scottish League Cup final with Celtic.
Hibs chief executive Ben Kensell said: "Following the prolonged run of poor results in the league, the club has taken the tough decision to relieve Jack Ross of his duties.
"We wish them all the best in their future endeavours. The club will now look to appoint a new manager to take the club and this talented young squad forward and a further update will be provided in due course."
Steve Kean is the early frontrunner with bookmakers Ladbrokes at odds of Evens.

The former Blackburn boss was recently appointed Hibernian's new academy director having returned to England after 10 games in temporary charge at Melbourne Victory.
Alex Neil is second in the betting market at 2/1.
The former Norwich and Preston chief hasn't managed in Scotland since 2015 with Hamilton but is reportedly open to a return.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "The odds suggest Hibs will be in safe hands with Steve Kean for the foreseeable, although if the board do have an immediate Jack Ross replacement in mind, then the job may well go to Alex Neil."
Callum Davidson is available at 6/1, while Derek McInnes and Raphael Wicky are locked together at 10s.
Further back in the market, Paul Lambert is offered at 20s with Neil Lennon and Neil Warnock at 25/1.
Former United boss Solskjaer and Sol Campbell are the outsiders at a whopping 100/1.
