Horse racing tips: Templegate NAP looks an absolute banker on day two of Doncaster St Leger Festival | The Sun

TEMPLEGATE takes on day two of the Doncaster St Leger Festival confident of banging in a few winners.

Read on for our man's top tips, check out his guide to every race and don't forget to back a horse by clicking their odds below.

ESHAADA (3.10 Doncaster, nap)

She signed off last season by winning the Group 1 Champion Fillies’ Stakes at Ascot with a little give in the ground.

We’ve only seen her twice this year and she was a decent third in the Lancashire Oaks despite being involved in a barging match.

Roger Varian is stepping her up in distance here. She should stay on breeding and it may even bring improvement on her already strong form.

BONNY ANGEL (1.25 Doncaster, nb)

She got better with every yard when edging out Lily In The Jungle over half a furlong shorter at Leicester last time.

The effort was all the better because she was caught behind horses and had to switch before making her challenge. She picked up strongly and has more to come.

MAGICAL SUNSET (2.00 Doncaster, treble)

She caught the eye when winning on debut at Windsor last month. She is nicely bred for this sort of trip and the form has been franked by the second home winning nicely.

This is clearly hotter company but there should be a lot more to come.

Templegate's race-by-race guide

1.25

BONNY ANGEL got better with every yard when edging out Lily In The Jungle over half a furlong shorter at Leicester last time.

The effort was all the better because she was caught behind horses and had to switch before making her challenge. She picked up strongly and has more to come.

Lily In The Jungle looks a threat again especially as she’s a bit better off at the weights today.

Hi Clare has been knocking on the door and finished a decent second on handicap debut at Hamilton. She’s back off the same mark and should be capable of better.

Palm Lily looked a nice prospect when scoring on debut at Kempton but found the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes a bit much at Ascot last time. This should be more her level.

Misty Blues won a Pontefract maiden and has gone well in two decent handicaps at York. She clocked a personal best when second in an 18-runner contest on the Knavesmire latest and a repeat of that would give her every chance.

Cathy Come Home scored on debut at Musselburgh before trying a Group contest. She ran a lot better than ninth suggests behind Misty Blues at York latest as she was badly hampered.

It would be no surprise to see her make the podium under 5lb claimer Jonny Peate.

Coco Jamboo showed something at Kempton latest but this is tougher.

2.00

MAGICAL SUNSET caught the eye when winning on debut at Windsor last month.

She is nicely bred for this sort of trip and the form has been franked by the second home winning nicely.

This is clearly hotter company but there should be a lot more to come.

Cold Case won a York maiden in June before a close second at Chester. He took another step forward when finishing a good third in the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes at York last time. That sets a good standard and he’ll be right there.

Andrew Balding has a good record in this race and the booking of William Buick catches the eye for his Holguin.

He was a debut winner over 5f at Newbury before finding the Group 2 Coventry Stakes a bit much at Royal Ascot. We haven’t seen him since then so he’ll be nice and fresh.

Legend Of Xanadu has more experience than these rivals and wnet close in Listed company at Newbury before a couple of flatter efforts.

He didn’t get the best of luck at York last time and looks a live each-way player.

Eminency scored at Windsor last time and is open to improvement for Clive Cox, while Pjanoo didn’t stay when a decent sixth at York last time and will prefer this distance.

2.35

DANCE IN THE GRASS has won her both career starts at Sandown and looks a nice prospect.

This daughter of top sire Cracksman made light work of a maiden before stepping into Listed company for a cosy success. She stayed on strongly there so moving up to a mile holds no fears and there’s more to come.

Fellow Johnston runner Ferrari Queen was only a length off the pace in a good race at Newbury and looks sure to improve for this extra furlong.

She has a little bit to find with her stablemate but looks solid each-way.

Frankness come here on the back of two wins around Chester where she had more than six lengths in hand last time. S

he picks up strongly and looks a danger moving up in trip.

Novakai wasn’t beaten far in the Sweet Solera at Newmarket and she won her maiden easily here in July. There should be a fair bit more to come.

Roger Varian’s horses are going well and his Cell Sa Beela stayed on well to win at Beverley. This is a lot hotter but she’s not overlooked.

Crystallium got off the mark at Chelmsford and is another who will relish the mile.

3.10

ESHAADA signed off last season by winning the Group 1 Champion Fillies’ Stakes at Ascot with a little give in the ground.

We’ve only seen her twice this year and she was a decent third in the Lancashire Oaks despite being involved in a barging match.

Roger Varian is stepping her up in distance here and should stay on breeding and it may even bring improvement on her already strong form.

Yesyes came back from 10 months off to be beaten just over a length in the Lillie Langtry at Glorious Goodwood.

She saw out this trip strongly there and has more to offer as a stayer. Urban Artist was just ahead of her in that race and she’s another to consider.

Hughie Morrison has a long track record with marathon runners and this seven-year-old could well try to run the legs out of them from the front.

Varian also fields Believe In Love who won a York Group 3 before finishing fourth in the Lancashire Oaks. She has a bit to find in this grade.

Glenartney ran well in France 18 days ago after stumbling out of the stalls at Goodwood and isn’t dismissed.

3.45

BILLYB was a good winner over course and distance in July and has gone close on two outings since. He was just pipped in this class at Thirsk last time when not getting the breaks.

Trainer Ann Duffield is going well and his liking for the track is a real bonus.

Zainalarab is progressing nicely and followed a good Chester win with a handicap debut success at Sandown.

He did well to come from a long way back and scored with plenty up his sleeve. A 5lb rise in the weights for that looks fair.

New Kingdom looked a tricky ride when midfield at York last time and he has cheekpieces on for the first time.

He has run well in decent company and has a little help from the handicapper.

Spirit Of Nguru won a couple of all-weather maidens and has shown promise in a couple of handicaps since.

He was well backed before finishing a close-up fourth at Goodwood latest.

Spangled Mac is a little high in the weights now but isn’t ruled out, while Royal Parade will be happy back on turf after a poor run at Chelmsford.

4.20

ADAYAR is back from a long break but his class can see him home. He won the Derby last year before taking the QEII Stakes at Ascot in July.

He was a solid fourth in the Arc despite hitting the front miles out before the Champion Stakes came too soon. Dropping back in trip shouldn’t be an issue.

Stablemate Dhahabi looks short of this level but he should be able to guarantee a good gallop. Masekela is no pushover after a decent run at York last time but needs to raise his game.

4.55

JR CAVAGIN wasn’t beaten far here last time and he’s come right down the weights. This looks wide open and he’s capable of going close.

La Roca Del Fuego landed a couple of wins earlier in the season before a good third in a big field at York.

He didn’t handle Epsom last time and is better than that.

Quercus likes this trip and has been beaten less than a length on his past four runs. He has a chance along with Cottam Lane who went close at Pontefract and drops in class from Ripon last time.

5.28

LITTLE MUDDY is in better form than most of these and won at Ayr over this trip two runs ago. He was just edged out at Nottingham last time and has winning course form.

Impressor has been running well over 5f and will have every chance if repeating that at the longer trip.

Crypto Quest scored at Hamilton latest and was second in a similar race to this two starts ago.

He has joined shrewd trainer Les Eyre who has found a good race here. Indian Sounds is another to note coming down the weights.
