Iker Casillas returns to Porto pre-season training two months after heart attack… but is still expected to retire
IKER CASILLAS turned up to Porto's training camp – two months after having a heart attack.
But the Real Madrid and Spain legend is still expected to hang up his gloves despite brushing off retirement rumours earlier.
Casillas, 38, was rushed to CUF Porto Hospital in May after suffering "an acute myocardial infarction".
Having undergone a life-saving surgery, he was discharged after five days and admitted he didn't know what "his future holds".
But the Spain icon then denied retiring after receiving positive news from doctors.
And Casillas has now visited his team-mates as they kicked off pre-season preparations.
He shared a picture of him arriving at Porto's training facility with words that read: "Back to work. Day one."
However, Goal report he did not train with the team and avoided medical exams as he is continuing rehab following his operation.
Casillas is believed to have visited Porto's training ground to finalise the details of his retirement.
An announcement is set to be made in the nearest future, although the date has not been set.
SARA'S FIGHT
The football world was shocked when the keeper's wife Sara Carbonero revealed her battle with ovarian cancer – just three weeks after Casillas' heart attack.
The Spanish TV journalist underwent surgery to remove a malignant tumour at the end of May.
And the Ruber International clinic confirmed the operation had been "a success without incident".
Casillas married Carbonero, 35, in 2015 and the couple have two sons, Martin and Lucas.
