Juventus return to top of Serie A after late Gonzalo Higuain winner at Inter Milan – The Sun

JUVENTUS climbed above Inter Milan to top the Serie A after Gonzalo Higuain scored a late winner at the San Siro.

Italian champions Juve travelled to Milan two points behind Antonio Conte's high flyers.

And it was ex-AC Milan forward Higuain who returned to the Italian capital to haunt rivals Inter, slotting in a winner ten minutes from time.

Juve had taken the lead just four minutes into the game through Paulo Dybala who rocketed a left footed strike into the corner.

But Lautaro Martinez thought he had levelled from the spot after his 18th minute penalty was converted.

Nicolo Barella's cross was met by summer signing Matthijs de Ligt, who was adjudged to have handled the ball.

Dybala almost grabbed his second of the game on 56 minutes but Inter keeper Handanovic closed down the striker and pulled off a smart save.

With the game opening up Conte's men almost took the lead after a Matias Vecino effort from outside the box deflected off De Ligt to rattle the post.

Juve would then go down the other end and Ronaldo once again called Handanovic into action after cutting in from the left and forcing the Slovenian to push wide.

But Higuain, who is back in Italy after ending his uneventful Chelsea loan this summer, was put through on goal ten minutes from time by Rodrigo Bentancur after a tidy one-two pass between the pair.

And the 31-year-old made no mistake in slotting past Handanovic to ensure the champions find themselves on top of the Serie A again.
