Liverpool captain Henderson given ‘b******ing’ by his parents for how he speaks to referees

LIVERPOOL captain Jordan Henderson has revealed he is often given a "b******ing" by his parents for how he speaks to referees.

The 28-year-old's competitiveness is part of the reason he is about to become only the fifth English footballer to skipper a team at consecutive European Cup finals.

The England star revealed earlier this week that he has banned himself from contacting his international teammates at Spurs before the Champions League final.

And the former Sunderland midfielder also conceded that his desperate will-to-win can be so extreme that he even argues the coin toss with officials.

Speaking to the Times, he said: “When I go to the stadium, my mindset changes. I’m in game mode, I feel a competitor.

"On the pitch, I’ll give everything. It can be a bit borderline. I’d say I’m a fair player, an honest player, but in terms of my language . . .”

I’d like to think I was respectful to refs but unfortunately, I might have crossed the line. My mum and dad give me a b******ing for it.

Henderson's fierce style of play has led him into clashes with the likes of Diego Costa and Stefan Savic but he revealed it can also be the referees who suffer his wrath.

He added: “I’d like to think I was respectful to refs but unfortunately I might have crossed the line if you ask the referees.

“My mum and dad give me a b******ing for it. They’ll say, ‘You need to button it.’ I say, ‘It’s difficult when you’re in the heat of the moment.’ But I’ve improved. When I was younger, I was a lot worse.

“It’s the way I play football — all or nothing. The drive’s within me. It comes from my parents, the way I was brought up, the values I was given as a kid.’’

Henderson is one of seven players from the Madrid showpiece who have also been named in the England squad for the Nations League the following weekend.

He forms Gareth Southgate's Anfield trio alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez, while Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Harry Kane, and Danny Rose have also been included from Mauricio Pochettino's side.

Henderson confirmed that he exchanged congratulatory texts with his England teammates after the semi-final's but friendships have now firmly been put on hold.
