Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has hit out at Soccer Aid’s decision to give attendees blue and white flags – when the game is being held at Old Trafford.

Sunday’s televised clash between England and a World XI is being held at Man United’s home ground – but the flags given to the fans inside the sold-out stadium were noticeable for resembling Manchester City’s sky blue colour.

It comes just a day after Man City sealed their Treble with the Champions League final win over Inter Milan.

Scholes wrote on Instagram: ‘Somebody has to be taking the p*** with all these flags.’

Soccer Aid raises money for UNICEF, and they primarily use blue and white in their promotions, but it is just unlucky that from a distance they can look a lot like celebrating Man City supporters.

Their crosstown rivals celebrated by tweeting ‘We’ll keep the blue flag flying high’ in connection with a competition to win a shirt signed by the European champions.

Soccer Aid features two line-ups featuring ex-professional football players and celebrities.

Scholes is one of the ex-pros to be lining up for England, alongside former teammate Gary Neville.

The pair had been warned to ‘be careful with the tackles’ by former Man United pair Nani and Patrice Evra – who appear in the World XI on Sunday.
