Solskjaer insists he is ‘delighted’ for Haaland after stunning Dortmund start… despite snubbing Man Utd transfer – The Sun

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER has insisted that he is delighted for Erling Haaland after his stunning start at Borussia Dortmund.

The Norwegian was desperate to land his young compatriot for Manchester United before the striker sealed an £18million move to Germany.

Solskjaer, who worked with Haaland at Molde, even travelled to Salzburg on December 13 to meet with the player and thought they had wrapped up a deal to sign their man.

But the 19-year-old prodigy opted to join Dortmund last month after the club showed him a video showcasing their famed Yellow Wall.

And Haaland has since been on a sensational hot-streak, scoring 11 goals in just seven appearances following a brace in the 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain.

Solskjaer meanwhile made an effort to put aside his disappointment at missing out on the prodigy's signature to praise his current form.

Since I've had Erling, I'm just delighted for him. He's a top boy, an absolutely fantastic kid, who you want the best for

He said: "I normally never comment on opposition players, but since I've had Erling, I'm just delighted for him.

"He's a top boy, an absolutely fantastic kid, who you want the best for. And for Norway it's brilliant that we have a striker who can score goals again."

Solskjaer was less positive about Marcus Rashford after he admitted that the England star may not play again this season.

He added: “I would hope he’s playing this season. It will just be touch and go towards the end.

“Hopefully we can get through this tournament and prolong the season.

“It takes time, I’m not a doctor. I was hoping he would recover quicker than what it looks like he’s going to be out for.

“Another few months definitely. If he’s not fit enough he won’t go (to the Euros)."
